Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage

Planes on the tarmac at Edinburgh Airport
A technical fault at Edinburgh's ATC meant no aircraft could arrive or depart from the facility.

Flight operations have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All incoming and outgoing flights were halted because of an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac while the issue persisted.

Services Recommence with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are likely to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be impacted.

"Flyers are asked to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their individual travel plans," the statement added.

Cause of the Chaos

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Flyers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as residual delays are managed.
