Olympic gold medalist Anthony Joshua has left the medical facility, local government spokespeople confirmed on Wednesday evening. The 36-year-old was involved in a car accident in the Lagos area on Monday, a devastating event that claimed the lives of two of his close associates.
The boxer had been receiving medical attention while healing from his light wounds, his management team confirmed on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, said in a statement online that Joshua was deemed clinically fit to “recuperate at home”.
“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two departed friends as they were being made ready for the journey back,” the commissioner stated.
The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach. Omotoso added that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the tragic loss of his two dear friends.”
