News has broken that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
Lawrence and Hutcherson are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, respectively. Speculation suggests their cameos will likely occur in a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This represents the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who was behind most of the previous films in the series.
The film's narrative are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
