The Miami Heat scored eighty-six opening half scores versus the Memphis Grizzlies
The Heat earned a crushing 146 to 114 victory against the Memphis Grizzlies in their first NBA game after player Rozier was detained over alleged illegal gambling.
Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was also detained as part of a broad federal investigation into sports betting. The two individuals contest the claims.
But, the Miami team were not distracted as they put up 86 opening half scores to lead Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year existence.
Adebayo top-scored with 24 scores and later said Terry had the team's full backing.
"We support him. Full support," Adebayo stated. "You support him through and through. That's our brother ultimately."
Miami head coach Spoelstra commented: "Rozier is a person who is important to all of us. He has made a real positive impact on our team.
"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces this."
Portland also won their initial match since the detentions, with Brazil-born Splitter stepping in as interim coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the team to a decisive 139 to 119 win over the Golden State Warriors.
"We all had positive times with Chauncey and how he coached," Tiago said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but we have a job to do."
Speaking about the detentions for the first time, league head Adam Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the past few days.
"Nothing is more critical to the league and its fans than the fairness of the competition," he informed Amazon Prime. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."
The commissioner further mentioned an league probe into the player's actions in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.
"We were informed by the regulators and the betting companies," he added.
"We investigated that situation and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, found no evidence.
"The federal government has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA is unable to.
"Therefore, we've been cooperating since then. And, of course, what they announced recently was an indictment.
"And two and a half years later, he still hasn't been convicted of anything, in fairness to Terry.
"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and investigating."
