World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup where the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate 51 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB announced this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase over the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in 13th position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12 million. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in 16 various languages.
